Pastor
Bob Phelps
The Reverend Bob Phelps' first Sunday in the pulpit at JJ White Memorial Presbyterian Church was July 21, 2013. He and has wife Deanna have moved to McComb from Brentwood, Tennessee, where he pastored at East Brentwood Presbyterian Church.
Reverend Phelps is a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he prepared for a career as an English teacher. After teaching for six years and working in education and staff development at a hospital in Indiana Bob became an elder in his church and sensed God's call to ministry as a profession. He attended Memphis Theological Seminary and upon graduation with distinction and awards for preaching, theology and church history, Reverend Phelps served Cumberland Presbyterian Church congregations in Kentucky, Mississippi , and Alabama.
Bob then sensed God's call to transfer to the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination, and served as an organizing pastor for new church effort in the Presbytery of St Augustine, Florida.
Reverend Phelps has also written and taught extensively including Presbyterian church school resources such as series for Bible Discovery, Bible Quest, Adult Foundational Curriculum, The Present Word, and The Thoughtful Christian; and is occasionally a contributor to These Days, an ecumenical daily devotional resource, and Lectionary Homiletics, a preaching journal. He has served on the faculties of Huntsville Bible College and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Program of Alternative studies.
His primary passion, however, is ministry in the local congregation. He and his wife Deanna are both lovers of music, and will enjoy working with the choir and other musicians in McComb. Bob and Deanna have two sons.
